Barbra Streisand looked incredible while promoting her Release Me 2 album on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on August 10, 2021 and ITV’s Lorraine on August 12. Her sharp black blazer and creme blouse looked perfect against the backdrop of her 1735 Queen Anne wing chair and the staircase in her main house. This antique chair resides next to a 1795 portrait of George Washington. In “My Passion For Design” Barbra notes that the chair was “originally upholstered in traditional linsey-woolsey fabric, which I didn’t want to remove, so I just had it slipcovered in navy blue velvet to pick up the color of George Washington’s uniform in the Charles Peal Polk Portrait. I thought of this as Washington’s chair, so I had the pillow embroidered with his initials” (p.256).
Though there is limited view of Barbra’s blazer, the cut and my instinct tells me it is by Susanna Beverly Hills. Streisand has worn her jackets and skirt suits multiple times in the past including including during her “Partners” photo shoots and when she hosted Fallon in 2015. SBH is well known for designing suits for the stars. Some of her most famous have been worn by Hillary Clinton.
One little detail that I just love is that Barbra incorporated the same antique long-chain pearl necklace that she previously wore to Reincarnation Costume Ball in 1969 as part of her Colette costume. These type of necklaces featuring removable brooches were very popular in the Edwardian and Victorian period. They can be worn hanging or with the brooch attached to a lapel as Barbra has done.
She also wore an additional “tin-cup” style Y-shaped pearl necklace with an etched floral disc pendant. Spotted in her left wrist bracelet stack were black and gold name bracelets from The Callaway Collection. These bracelets were gifted to her by her daughter-in-law Kathryn Boyd Brolin, and feature the name of her granddaughters Chapel and Westlyn. A third bracelet has a single B for Barbra.
Barbra’s long bob was styled in beach waves, which is a look she has been rocking more frequently in recent years. These toussled curls look great on her and set a more casual hair tone that is still elegant and flattering. The most exciting part of this interview, however, was hearing that in the next year or so fans are about to get their hands on the autobiography that Streisand has been working on for so many years. I can’t wait to read about her life and life’s work straight from the source!
