Chime in! If Barbra Streisand had been the 6th Spi Chime in! If Barbra Streisand had been the 6th Spice Girl, what spice would she be!? This super cute costume was designed by legendary designer Ann Roth. When researching for the film Roth looked for inspiration for “erotic & scuzzy” underwear by browsing through copies of Screw Magazine. Roth began her career as an apprentice to Irene Sharaff at Bucks County Playhouse in PA. She went on to design costumes for more than 100 films and is still active today~currently working on the upcoming Wicked film. #theowlandthepussycat #streisandstylefiles #barbrastreisand #streisand #annroth #costumedesign #filmcostumes #wicked #spicegirls
I’m very sad to learn that Lou Papalas passed aw I’m very sad to learn that Lou Papalas passed away this week. He devoted much of his time to preserving Streisand history and did a wonderful job conserving some of her most iconic costumes and outfits. Select pieces from his massive collection were recently on view at the Hello Gorgeous exhibition at The Jewish Museum of Florida and prior to that at the Bernard Museum of Judaica in NYC. My condolences go out to his family and all who knew and loved him.

#waybackwednesday Barbra Streisand wore this elega #waybackwednesday Barbra Streisand wore this elegant Anne Fogarty dress in Bert Stern photos that appeared in the August 1, 1964 issue of Vogue Magazine. In the spread, Streisand modeled multiple outfits featuring the latest fashion trends. Vogue noted that this look was “a dress that stands beautifully-tall and strict-while the famous bock-velvet magic entrances the skin. By Anne Fogarty of Acele acetate and Narco rayon (Martin velvet).” This streamlined, sheath maxi dress features a jewel neckline, elongated princess seams, and a multi-tiered ruffle bottom. A vent at the back of the ruffles allows ease of movement. A long-hidden zipper closure runs down the center back and there is a hook and eye closure at the neckline. Fogarty’s brand A.F Boutique mass produced this design in numerous colors and fabrics. Ruffles were a consistent theme in Fogarty’s early 1960s dresses which is no surprise since she was famous for her ultra-feminine dresses in the 1950s. #streisandstylefiles #annefogarty #barbrastreisand #streisand #dresshistory #fashionhistory #vogue
