Now that we are officially in Halloween season, I Now that we are officially in Halloween season, I wanted to feature some of the fabulous orange looks Barbra has worn over the years. She’s said before that orange is one of her least favorite colors, but it looks amazing on her. This vibrant orange tribal outfit was worn by Streisand in Kenya during the filming of “Up the Sandbox” (1972). It was comprised of two large pieces of fabric draped and pinned to form a dress called a “Shúkà” in the Maa language. Another piece of fabric was worn over her shoulder and pinned to the dress. The vibrant orange turban is also just a simple piece of fabric wrapped artfully and fastened with a pin. Light fraying is visible around the edges where the fabric was torn. Streisand added numerous pieces of native-made jewelry including a delicate necklace, belt, beaded hoop earrings, and rings. Her hands clutch matching flowers called Abutilon hirtum which is a medicinal plant with anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic and anti-bacterial properties.

Steve Shapiro, who took this photo, reminisced about their time in Africa in his 2014 book stating, “Barbra really got along well with the Maasai. She tended to wear a lot of clothes that she got from the women in the tribe. She felt a real sense of camaraderie with them.” Streisand recalled, “I had the greatest outfits….jewelry made out of telephone wire, little beads.” Shapiro added, “We’d set up a portrait sitting on the fly.” I’m so glad the two took the time to capture these looks while on location. #barbrastreisand #streisandstylefiles #streisand #celebrityfashion #celebritystyle #kenya #upthesandbox
This beautiful white ostrich feather hat was a par This beautiful white ostrich feather hat was a part of Barbra Streisand’s personal collection until she donated it as a raffle prize for the 1966 18th annual Veterans Hospital Radio and Television Guild Ball. Proceeds from the raffle went to the Bedside Network which brought professional entertainers to entertain those in Veterans Hospitals. Inside the hat are tags that read “Bonwit Teller” and “Mr. Milton.” Bonwit Teller was a luxury department store located in NYC that closed around 1989. Mr. Milton hats were for sale in numerous high-end department stores in the 1960s. They are all really whimsical and unique designs so I can see why Barbra was attracted to them. This hat stayed in the family of the winner until 2017 when it was auctioned as part of a Hollywood Legends auction for Julien’s. It sold for just $450. #streisandstylefiles #barbrastreisand #streisand #celebritystyle #mrmilton #vintagehat #celebrityfashion #vintagefashion
